Speed (Kinda) Week at Home
I finally did some speed work this week. Well, “speed” is generous. I ran 4 miles in 30:30, 29:45 and then 29:30. There’s just no way I’m going to end up with under 8 minute miles for the River Bank! Perhaps I’ll run 10 minute miles in honor of my 10th Anniversary. That’s right … it has been 10 years since I ran 25K. I guess I should be happy if I finish.

Almost Home
I took the family on vacation to the Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn. Five swimming pools and lots of fun. On the return trip, we were almost home when the van lost its transmission (2-3000K)! I called a tow truck, put on the jogging suit and ran 6 miles to the airport for a rental car. Until then, I had wondered how I was going to squeeze a run in to work off the Zenders Fried Chicken.

Home-Forever
I started out on my 25-30 mile commute to work yesterday and almost went to my permanent home! I had put my bike together in the garage and started down the hill. As I approached the T intersection, a car was right behind me and another one was coming at me. I went to apply both brakes and realized I hadn’t reconnected them after putting my tires back on. I leaned my bike over and managed to make the turn – narrowly missing the side of the oncoming car.
I cleaned out my shorts, fixed the brakes and kissed the family when I got home.

Home-Maze
I ran about 9 miles today. It may have been closer to ten miles after getting lost in a trailer park maze. Shortcuts rarely pay off! This was probably one of my last good runs before next weekend. Classes start in the morning!

Home-Banking
Not much running. I’ll try to get out today. In addition to biking to and from work on Friday, I did my banking via bike on Saturday. Together, I went about 40 miles. I’m still feeling like a slug for not running. I would like to keep biking to work. It will need to be Tuesday and Thursday though. I have to take a bunch of boys to school MWF! I hope to run those days.

Home-In-Record-Time (Run)
After recent discussions about how much time I’m taking to run and bike, I decided to go for a short/fast run. I ran four (4) miles in under 28 minutes. A record for me (these days)!

Home-In-Record-Time
I went for a ride with Scott Nibblelink Sunday. He said he would go about five miles and hadn’t been out much this year. His wife (Terri) warned me that he was very competitive and was no doubt setting me up. Sure enough…I rode over to his house and he was ready for a triathalon. Road bike, the shoes, camel pak, shades…the works.
I did my best to stay up with him, but he smoked me on the hills. I NEED A ROAD BIKE!! This hybrid is OK for the trails, but sends all my effort to the front shocks. I did get my revenge when Scott went down a hill and lost his back tire. He managed to dump in the grass and suffered no damage/injuries. You can see the area at about the 18.5 mile mark of my roughly 23 mile ride.

Home-Made Waffle
I seem to just bike lately. I rode to and from work yesterday (about 30 miles) and made real good time. About 40-45 minutes each way. I don’t think I can go any faster on my bike. The shocks and weight seem to slow me down.
I haven’t ran for some time now. I’m going to get out there and hit the road, sore knee or not! I need to work off this huge waffle.

Home-Brewed
Before I forget, I need to put down some mileage from last week. I was waiting until I could finalize my “running podcast”, but I decided to upload the raw mp3 and do the production later. I recorded myself while I ran about 3 miles downtown. Just something to try …seeing if I could run and talk about Blackboard 7.1 at the same time. Boy was it hard! That was last Thursday. After “brewing up” my running podcast, I decided to take some different turns on my bike route on Friday. I did about 30 miles.

Home-School
While running, you have plenty of time to contemplate important things…like what to title this post. I’ve decided that I like the idea of relating everything to home. Each post will have a title that contains a witty home reference. For example, a run from my house to the local builder’s supermarket might be called “home-depot.” If anyone can think of another place I can run to that goes with home, post a comment.
Today, I ran from home to Trevor’s school (Freedom Baptist) and back. A little over 7 miles.
