Home-Forever
I started out on my 25-30 mile commute to work yesterday and almost went to my permanent home! I had put my bike together in the garage and started down the hill. As I approached the T intersection, a car was right behind me and another one was coming at me. I went to apply both brakes and realized I hadn’t reconnected them after putting my tires back on. I leaned my bike over and managed to make the turn – narrowly missing the side of the oncoming car.
I cleaned out my shorts, fixed the brakes and kissed the family when I got home.

Home-Movies
We finally made the ride to Camp Geneva. The 20-mile route is described in a previous post. Only five (good) men did the trip, but it was nice. There was a tail-wind and the rain held off. It was a cold and windy day, but the chicken and afternoon service was awesome! Here’s a short movie of the trip.

Home-Maze
I ran about 9 miles today. It may have been closer to ten miles after getting lost in a trailer park maze. Shortcuts rarely pay off! This was probably one of my last good runs before next weekend. Classes start in the morning!

Home-Banking
Not much running. I’ll try to get out today. In addition to biking to and from work on Friday, I did my banking via bike on Saturday. Together, I went about 40 miles. I’m still feeling like a slug for not running. I would like to keep biking to work. It will need to be Tuesday and Thursday though. I have to take a bunch of boys to school MWF! I hope to run those days.

Home-In-Record-Time
I went for a ride with Scott Nibblelink Sunday. He said he would go about five miles and hadn’t been out much this year. His wife (Terri) warned me that he was very competitive and was no doubt setting me up. Sure enough…I rode over to his house and he was ready for a triathalon. Road bike, the shoes, camel pak, shades…the works.
I did my best to stay up with him, but he smoked me on the hills. I NEED A ROAD BIKE!! This hybrid is OK for the trails, but sends all my effort to the front shocks. I did get my revenge when Scott went down a hill and lost his back tire. He managed to dump in the grass and suffered no damage/injuries. You can see the area at about the 18.5 mile mark of my roughly 23 mile ride.

Home-at-Last
I finally did it. I ran from work to home – about 13 miles. I felt good until I got off the trail and stopped at Chicago Drive. After that, it was painful and slow. No one seemed impressed at home…just wondered why it took so long to get home! Now, I have to bike back in this morning (left my jeep, clothes and laptop at work).

Home-Run
Well, I got back to running today. Here’s my 11 mile route. Not a stellar pace, but I feel like I’ve hit a home-run mileage wise. According to this blog, I’ve completed over 400 milesĀ (running and biking) since the start of July. Respectable for a inactive old guy!

Home-Coming
I returned home from Chicago Wednesday night. I haven’t been able to run or bike since last Friday. It’s good to come home! Here’s what I did this week:
Sunday – 5 miles on eliptical machine
Monday – 15 miles on stationary bike
Tuesday – 5 miles on eliptical machine
Wednesday – 13 mile bike ride
Friday – 9 mile run
I’m getting ready for a long bike ride today.

Home-Front
I ran late tonight to avoid the heat. After eight miles, I still arrived home dripping wet. A storm front chased me the entire time. This weather is too hot! There’s only a small window each day to get in a workout.
I’ll call this an endurance run with some hill work. I ran on the golf course. That feels good on the knees!

Home @ 50
No, not 50 years old! That’s coming soon enough. Today, I did my first 50 mile bike ride. I went from home to church. Then, rode to Camp Geneva. Then, South on Lakeshore Drive and East through Holland. I returned via Chicago Drive.
Another hot one! I’d say it was around 95 degrees. Boy are my lower regions sore. I promptly went to the store and got some biker shorts. I hate the way they look, but love the padding. Next ride on Thursday.
