Home-Baked
I ran about 8.5 miles today. Boy was it hot (94 degrees, sunny and high humidity)! All the roads I ran on had NO shade. I kept thinking that I should have brought a water bottle along. I hate carrying things though. Maybe a belt like this. By time I got home, I was completely baked and jumped into the pool.

Home-Video
I biked about 20.5 miles last night. It got really dark. I got a new Samsung “Sports Camcorder” and recorded the route. I’ll post the video as soon as I get a chance.

Home-Brewed
Before I forget, I need to put down some mileage from last week. I was waiting until I could finalize my “running podcast”, but I decided to upload the raw mp3 and do the production later. I recorded myself while I ran about 3 miles downtown. Just something to try …seeing if I could run and talk about Blackboard 7.1 at the same time. Boy was it hard! That was last Thursday. After “brewing up” my running podcast, I decided to take some different turns on my bike route on Friday. I did about 30 miles.

Home-Study
I got up early (6am) and went to a bible study at church. Afterwards, I went on a 11 mile bike tour to study different routes to Camp Geneva. My proposed route, with its three miles of dirt, turned out to be difficult. So, I tried going south of Chicago Drive. I ended up looping back on Riley and returning to church via Chicago Drive.
Further study revealed that a better route seems to be West on New Holland to 48th, North on 48th to Barry, West on Barry to 72nd, South on 72nd to Quincy, and West on Quincy to Camp Geneva. Basically, I needed to loop one road North of New Holland to skip the dirt. Here’s the proposed bike route. Avoiding the dirt makes it a total of about 20 miles. Post a comment if you know a better way!

Home-Not Alone
Today, I had the great honor of riding with THE Bill Faber for a few of my 28.5 miles. He’s in great shape! If he conquers his fear of swimming and pedestrians, he’ll make a great triathelete. (BTW, I didn’t see you at Aman Park tonight Bill)
I guess you need to be fast when you ride alone on a pretty bike.

Home-Circuit
Tonight, I had the idea that I would run to Ed’s house and convince him to complete the circuit by running with me back to my house. Ed wasn’t home! I ran around his neighborhood and then came back home. About nine miles.

Home-Bike-Run-Bike-Home
I know…the post titles are getting more ridiculous and less spectacular! Today, I biked over to Ed Gordillo’s house, ran about three miles and biked back home. The route was about 10 miles and looks like something out of the Eric Kunnen playbook!
With all the running and biking, I’m starting to get serious about the Reeds Lake Triathalon. Here’s something I didn’t know:
“Each participant must complete the swim in under 35 minutes and complete the bike portion in 1hr. 15 min. (total time for swim and bike is 1 hr. 50 min.) Your time will be calculated from the start of your heat. Athletes asked to return due to time limits are not allowed on the run course. Violators will be banned from next year’s event.”
The bike route is 18 miles and the swim is .5 miles. Map below.

Home-Work
I biked from home to work and back home today. I followed the Kent Trail. Lots of debris from the storm. A log blocked one of the bridges. It’s about 26 miles round trip. Tonight, I feel like I need a better bike seat!
Jason sent me to digg.com for Kevin Rose’s digg on beginning runners. This led me to http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifehack/running-for-beginners.html and then to the “Fat Guy Gets Fit” blog. I was thinking on the way in that 15 miles = 1 hour = 1 podcast!

Home-Sweat-Home
After last night’s storm, I decided to try the knee out with a light (6 mile) run this morning. Talk about a SAUNA!! With all the sweat, it was hard to see where I was running. I know…too much detail.
The good news is that the knee did pretty good. Still, I kept thinking about the FELT S32 (see Eric’s del.icio.us tags at http://del.icio.us/ekunnen/bicycle). Maybe I’ll get this for my wedding anniversary today.

Home-Repairs
Had a couple of breakdowns lately. On Friday, I started to run and my knee gave out. Limped back to the house and decided to start biking. Got a flat tire about half-way through this route (about 10 miles). I kept pumping up my tire until it went flat again. I carried the last mile!
Sunday, I did some speed work on the bike. A quick 7 miles to church and back. Today, I’m riding to work and back home. I’ve already done about 13 miles using the Chicago Drive route.
Update: I left work and followed Market Street until it turned into the bike path (and Kent Trails). I stayed along the trail to Georgetown Township and came out near the intersection of Baldwin and Chicago Drive. A lot more shade and a lot less traffic! I can’t find the exact route on the map below, but it may be shorter too (about 12 miles).
